LMT is proud to announce our corporate title sponsorship for the inaugural Working Wounded Crossfit Games to be held at Crossfit Rubicon in Vienna, VA on November 10th, 2012, Veterans Day weekend. There will be a virtual competition for those athletes Nationwide who are unable to travel to Northern Virginia to compete in person.
It’s (crossfit) gotten me out a lot more I think; I can do a lot more because of it. – Nick Thom, Wounded Warrior, double amputee, Crossfit Athlete
This competition is designed to recognize outstanding achievement within the Wounded Warrior and Adaptive Athlete population and to promote continued education and support. All proceeds will be used to further training and competition opportunities of adaptive athletes, at little or no cost to them, through programs at Crossfit Walter Reed, Crossfit Rubicon, and charities whose mission is to use sport and nutrition as part of the recovery process.
We are currently partnering with Team R4V (http://www.teamr4v.org/) and Boulder Crest (http://bouldercrestretreat.org/), both 501(c)(3) organizations. Team R4V is established to provide education and grants to wounded warriors as part of their mission of incorporating sport into the recovery process. Boulder Crest just broke ground this year and will be operational next summer. It is meant to provide a short retreat for wounded warriors from the grind of life at Walter Reed-Bethesda. During their stay, there will be classes on cooking healthy, mobility through yoga, and other programs design to be both relaxing and educational.
I feel like if they could see me and other amputees doing it (crossfit) nobody would have doubt in their mind about doing anything, for that matter. – Matt Ramsey, Wounded Warrior, single amputee, Crossfit Athlete
